$4 million boost for Ohio’s hard tech startups: Advanced Manufacturing Fund launches phase two
The Advanced Manufacturing Fund (AMF), in partnership with JumpStart Ventures, MAGNET, and private investors, has launched its second round of funding—committing $4 million to accelerate the growth of early-stage manufacturing startups across Ohio.
Ohio’s strengths—deep industrial roots, a world-class workforce, and robust public-private collaboration—make it a prime launchpad for hard tech startups. AMF aims to harness those advantages to create a scalable, repeatable investment model.
Why it matters
Unlike software startups, manufacturing ventures often face steep challenges when bringing physical products to market—including high capital requirements and complex supply chains. AMF is designed to address this funding gap head-on, providing more than just capital.
"Ohio has everything an entrepreneur needs to build a successful manufacturing company—an unmatched workforce, strong industrial roots, and a community committed to innovation," said Eric Hillenbrand, AMF Manager.
The initiative goes beyond check-writing. Startups receive access to seasoned operators, manufacturing consultants, and business advisors—resources critical to navigating the complexity of hard tech.
The details
AMF Fund 1 launched with a $2 million investment.
Fund 2 builds on that momentum with $4 million in new capital.
The initiative pairs funding with strategic guidance, mentorship, and access to a statewide network of manufacturing experts.
AMF is also working to expand its reach by creating a broader network of funds across Ohio focused on hard product technologies.
“Hard tech and manufacturing startups require significant resources to scale, and historically, this has been a challenge for early-stage companies,” added Julie Jacono, CEO, JumpStart Ventures.
“Manufacturing is Ohio’s lifeblood,” said Ethan Karp, MAGNET’s President & CEO. “The Advanced Manufacturing Fund is part of the support that will help Ohio continue to innovate and grow our manufacturing prowess.”
The bottom line
Ohio is positioning itself as a national leader in hard tech and advanced manufacturing. The second phase of AMF strengthens a vital part of the ecosystem—getting bold ideas off the ground and into production.
