Record $9.9 million awarded in latest round of TechCred, boosting Ohio’s workforce
Ohio’s push to build a future-ready workforce hit a new milestone this week as Governor Mike DeWine announced a record-setting $9.9 million in TechCred awards during the May application round. It’s the largest total in the program’s history.
Launched in 2019, TechCred helps employers upskill workers by covering the cost of short-term, tech-focused training programs. The latest round awarded funding to 622 employers, enabling 8,362 technology credentials to be earned by Ohioans across industries.
“This record-breaking round of TechCred funding reflects our commitment to helping every Ohioan reach their version of the American Dream,” said Governor DeWine. “We’re creating opportunities for people to grow their skills, advance their careers, and strengthen Ohio’s economy.”
Lt. Governor Jim Tressel, who now helps lead the initiative alongside DeWine, called TechCred “a powerful pathway” to upward mobility and long-term success.
“Employers benefit from upgraded skills in their workplace, while employees gain the confidence to keep learning and growing,” said Tressel.
TechCred supports businesses of all sizes and across sectors—from healthcare and manufacturing to finance and construction. Employers can receive up to $30,000 per funding round and $180,000 annually to train employees in skills such as IT networking, automation, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
“TechCred is making a real difference in the lives of thousands of hardworking Ohioans,” said Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik. “We are helping hardworking people take the next step—whether that’s earning a raise, finding a new job, or growing in their careers.”
Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey emphasized the dual benefit of the program: boosting both individuals and employers.
“Through TechCred, Ohioans are learning the key skills that will help them thrive in today’s tech-infused economy,” said Duffey. “This collaboration also provides a huge boost to employers as they look to grow a successfully trained workforce.”
