Global biotech leader Amgen has opened its new cutting-edge facility in Ohio, which it calls the most technologically advanced of its kind.

Amgen Ohio, also called AOH, is nearly 300,000 square feet and designed to meet the growing demand for Amgen medications in the U.S. It was built with a digital-first approach, was designed to meet the highest level of environmental sustainability standards, and incorporates the latest innovations in smart manufacturing.

Amgen Ohio will bring 400 full-time jobs with $40 million in annual payroll, including roles for technicians and engineers, quality assurance, quality control, administrative, and management positions.

Amgen touts the AOH as the most rapid site completion in the company’s nearly 45-year history, taking only 26 months from the groundbreaking ceremony. Amgen’s broader U.S. expansion includes a facility that is under construction in North Carolina.

Amgen has been quick to embed itself in the community.

The company is working with Columbus State Community College to host an 18-month manufacturing apprenticeship at the facility.
