The Cleveland Clinic and Canon Inc. are joining forces to create a research partnership designed to advance and develop cutting-edge imaging and healthcare IT technologies.

The partnership, announced Monday, will establish a comprehensive imaging research center based in the Cleveland Innovation District.

About the partnership

The collaboration will focus on the fields of cardiology, neurology, and musculoskeletal medicine. Projects within the imaging research center will center around three areas: pre-clinical imaging, human imaging, and image analysis.

According to the announcement, the center will house a team of clinician scientists, researchers, and engineers committed to pushing research in state-of-the-art imaging technologies with the ultimate goal of improving patient diagnosis, care, and outcomes.

Why it matters to Ohio

The partnership is designed to bolster research collaborations both in Ohio and globally.

The new center will be part of the Cleveland Innovation District - a collaboration between the State of Ohio, JobsOhio, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland State University, MetroHealth, and University Hospitals.

The Innovation District, launched in 2021, unites Cleveland’s world-leading medical institutions and higher education universities to further cement northeast Ohio as a global leader in patient care and healthcare innovation. The District has a goal to create more than 20,000 healthcare-focused jobs over the next decade.
