AT&T invests $2.8 billion in Ohio infrastructure to expand broadband, 5G, and public safety networks
Ohio is in the midst of a digital transformation. With nearly $3 billion invested across the state from 2020–2024, AT&T is helping close the digital divide, modernize infrastructure, and equip communities for the demands of a data-driven economy. From rural southeast counties to major metro regions, Ohioans are seeing tangible connectivity upgrades.
The details
AT&T’s investment spanned a wide range of technologies: fiber, 5G, FirstNet for first responders, and fixed wireless internet services. Key highlights include:
$625 million invested in Columbus, followed by Cleveland ($525M), Akron ($375M), Cincinnati ($200M+), and other markets statewide.
AT&T Fiber® now reaches 875,000 locations across 140 Ohio communities.
Nearly 2.6 million fiber strand miles run through the state, powering high-speed internet for homes and businesses.
AT&T Internet Air, a fixed wireless product powered by 5G, continues rolling out in Ohio homes.
Public safety gets a boost
Through FirstNet®, AT&T’s dedicated public safety network, more than 1,120 public safety agencies across Ohio—from Columbus to Lima—now have access to reliable emergency communication. Band 14 coverage has expanded to 2,100 sites statewide, improving service in both urban and rural areas.
Bridging the digital divide
AT&T also opened three Connected Learning Centers in Cleveland and Columbus, offering free internet, Wi-Fi, and devices. These centers support digital literacy and access in underserved communities, a part of AT&T’s broader $5 billion national commitment to digital equity by 2030.
Ohio’s opportunity
As Ohio sees continued private-sector investment in data centers, manufacturing, and AI, robust connectivity is foundational. AT&T’s network upgrades position the state to compete in a tech-enabled economy—boosting innovation, education, and public service.
